Number Bonds
Five is two and what? Find the missing number on the flower!
What your child learns
- Splitting a number into two parts and putting two parts together (number bonds)
- Number bonds within 5, then up to 10
- Counting dots to find the missing part, then working it out without dots
- Finding all the ways to make a number, like 6 is 1 and 5, 2 and 4, 3 and 3…
How to play
- The number in the middle of the flower is the whole; the two numbers below are its parts. The box with a question mark is missing.
- Tap one of the three number cards below, or drag it into the question mark. On a computer, number keys work too.
- Pick the right one and the flower blooms and the bond is read aloud, like "five is made of two and three".
- In "find all the ways" rounds, fill in one flower after another until every way is found.
For parents
- At first the whole has dots in two colors, one per part: your child just counts the dots of the other color.
- As your child gets answers right, the dots fade away, numbers grow to 10, and questions about the whole appear ("two and three together make what?").
- Try it with real things too, like sharing 5 candies between two hands. After two wrong tries, the right card blinks as a hint.
- Progress and difficulty are saved on this device.
